Lockdown part. 1

Jello everybody my friends around the world,

I was thinking it would be a neat idea to revive my good old blog that I have left a looong time ago.

The idea is to share with you some references of cultural content, since I come across a lot of good stuff these days (also thanks to your own generosity of thoughts).

Music:

The forever beautiful playlist of my ex-restaurant l’ALFIERI on Spotify, almost 700 tracks that I have gathered in the years behind my bar and that I continue to update on a weekly basis, stay tuned!
A few albums that I listen on loop these days:
Podcasts:
  • Reply All : “‘A podcast about the internet’ that is actually an unfailingly original exploration of modern life and how to survive it.”
  • Jon Ronson's "The butterfly effect": "It's sort of about porn, but it's about a lot of other things. It's sad, funny, moving and totally unlike some other nonfiction stories about porn - because it isn't judgmental or salacious. It's human and sweet and strange and lovely. It's a mystery story, an adventure. It's also, I think, a new way of telling a story. This season follows a single butterfly effect. The flap of the butterfly's wings is a boy in Brussels having an idea. His idea is how to get rich from giving the world free online porn. Over seven episodes I trace the consequences of this idea, from consequence through to consequence. If you keep going in this way, where might you end up? It turns out you end up in the most surprising and unexpected places."

Books:
  1. Very insightful and pleasurable read on the digital revolution by Italian essayist & novelist Alessandro Baricco - The Game (available in ITA - FR - UK)
  2. Futuristic novel on the cohabitation with AI by bestseller Ian McEwan - Machines like me
Articles:

Films/documentary:

  • The Kleptocrats: "In one of the world's biggest financial crimes known as the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal (or 1MDB scandal), 3.5 billion dollars were stolen from a Malaysian government fund. Investigative reporters from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Hollywood Reporter follow the money as it travels across the globe, financing everything from luxury real estate and decadent parties to Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. Capturing white-collar crime at its greedy best, The Kleptocrats is tale of embezzlement, scams and greed run amok."
  • Motherless Brooklyn: "In 1950s New York, a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend."

I also wanted to share some photos that I have taken here in Sestriere so that you have an insight on how this special period rolls out for Anna, Ottavio, Tobia (our dog) and Me :)

Stick to the facts, act light but take this situation seriously and keep safe, that’s the best I can wish you.

With you tacit consent, I’ll update you next week,

Big hugs,

Grégoire
